Dayuling is located at the intersection of Hualien, Taichung, and Nantou counties. The tea gardens, traditionally situated between the 105.5K and 98K marks, are known as Dayuling Tea, located near the lush green streams and the headwaters. However, due to government regulations, many high-altitude tea trees have been cut down, and the current tea gardens are located at altitudes ranging from 2200 to 2600 meters.
The tea-making process of Dayuling tea is one of the few that still follows the traditional hand-rolling technique. Every step, from plucking, withering, rolling, to drying, is meticulously crafted by hand. Some tea farmers have also incorporated modern technology, such as precise temperature and humidity control, to ensure the stability of the tea’s quality.
The region’s cool climate, constant cloud cover, and short sunlight hours, along with other natural factors, result in tea production only during the spring and winter seasons. The Dayuling High Mountain Tea produced here has tightly rolled leaves, a glossy jade-green color, tender and plump leaf flesh, and a unique flavor. Its aroma is sweet and mellow, leaving a fragrant aftertaste on the lips and teeth, making it a rare and precious tea.
